3ppm air oil content converted into cubic meters

Explanation on unit conversion of air oil content

When converting the air oil content indicator of 3 ppm (volume concentration) into cubic meters, the following technical specifications need to be followed:

1. Conversion principle

  1. Definition of ppm: ppm (parts per million) is a unit of volume ratio, representing one millionth of volume
    • 1 ppm = 1 μ L/L (microliter/liter)= 1 mm ³/m ³ (cubic millimeter/cubic meter)
  2. conversion relationship
    • 3 ppm oil content = 3 cubic millimeters of oil/cubic meter of air
    • Equivalent expression: 3 × 10 m ³ oil/m ³ air

2. Engineering application scenarios

  1. Quality inspection scenarios
    • When testing 1000m³ compressed air, the total oil content is:
      • 1000m³ × 3×10 m³/m³ = 3×10 m³ = 3 liters
    • Note: This calculation assumes uniform mixing of oil and gas and is suitable for conditions where the flow rate at the pipeline section is stable (±10% fluctuation)
  2. Equipment selection reference
    • When selecting an oil separator, ensure that the filtration efficiency is ≥99.999%
    • Typical tertiary filtration system configuration:
      • Primary filter: 1ppm → 0.1ppm
      • Precision filter: 0.1ppm → 0.01ppm
      • Activated carbon filter: 0.01ppm → 0.003ppm

3. Testing precautions

  1. sampling requirements
    • Use full flow sampler, flow accuracy ±2.5%
    • The length of the sampling pipe is ≤3 meters to avoid oil condensation loss
  2. environmental compensation
    • For every 10℃ increase in temperature, the sampling volume needs to be corrected by-3%(Charles’s Law Compensation)
    • For every 0.1MPa change in pressure, the sampling volume needs to be corrected by ±10%(Boyle’s Law Compensation)

4. Comparison of industry standards
According to ISO 8573-1 compressed air quality class:

  • 3ppm oil content correspondsGrade 3Quality standard (Level 1: 0.01ppm, Level 2: 0.1ppm, Level 3: 1ppm)
  • Suitable for general industrial gas, precision manufacturing must meet Level 2 standards

Enterprises can monitor the quality of compressed air in real time by installing an online oil content detector (range of 0.001-10ppm). When the oil content is close to 5ppm, the filter pressure difference needs to be checked (it is recommended to replace the pressure difference>0.05MPa) to ensure that the system continues to meet the requirements of gas equipment.
