  • Measured using a flow meterA gas flow meter is installed on the equipment’s intake line, and actual operating conditions are used to measure the true gas consumption data; this method is the most accurate.
  • Empirical estimationFor older equipment lacking nameplate data, estimates may be based on the operating experience of similar equipment or on industry‑accepted standards, but a suitable safety margin must be maintained.

The Impact of Air Consumption on Air Compressor Sizing

Air consumption is the primary criterion for selecting an air compressor’s displacement. When sizing an air-compressor system, the total system air demand must be less than or equal to the compressor’s rated displacement. Moreover, to account for pipeline leakage, equipment aging, and potential future capacity expansions, a safety margin is typically added to the calculated total air consumption during equipment selection, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the compressed‑air supply system.
