  • Pressure sensor or pressure switch failure:If water accumulation or scale enters the pressure-sensing component, it may cause the contacts to seize, result in a short circuit, or lead to abnormal signal transmission. When the control system fails to receive the signal indicating that the upper‑limit pressure has been reached, it will command the motor to keep running.
  • Solenoid valve or relief valve malfunction:Moisture may cause the solenoid valves that control the air circuit to rust or seize. When the pressure reaches the set value, if the unloading valve fails to open properly, the equipment may be unable to enter the unloading mode, resulting in continuous loaded operation.
  • Moisture ingress in the control system:Severe waterlogging or high-humidity conditions can cause components inside electrical control cabinets to become damp, leading to logical malfunctions and preventing shutdown commands from being executed correctly.

Other potential hazards caused by excessive standing water

In addition to affecting start-stop control, excessive moisture can also cause multifaceted damage to the air compressor system:

  • Lubricant emulsification:The ingress of moisture into the lubrication system can cause the lubricant to emulsify, reducing its lubricating and cooling performance and accelerating wear on the compressor head bearings and rotor.
  • Internal Corrosion:Prolonged water accumulation accelerates rusting and corrosion inside gas storage tanks, pipelines, and valves, thereby reducing the service life of the equipment.
  • Deterioration in gas quality:Moisture carried by compressed air into the downstream piping network can impair the proper operation of pneumatic tools and even adversely affect downstream manufacturing processes.

How to Effectively Prevent and Address Waterlogging Issues

To prevent various malfunctions caused by water accumulation, the following measures should be implemented during routine maintenance:

  • Regular manual drainage:For equipment without an automatic drainage system, a strict scheduled drainage plan should be established, typically performed after shutdown each day or before startup.
  • Inspect the automatic drain:Regularly inspect electronic or float‑type automatic drain valves to ensure proper operation, and clean the filter screen to prevent blockage by debris that could impair drainage.
  • Improve the operating environment:Install the air compressor in a well-ventilated, low-humidity environment whenever possible, and regularly clean the cooler to enhance air–water separation efficiency.

Keeping the air compressor’s interior dry is essential for ensuring stable equipment operation. If the unit exhibits abnormal behavior, such as frequent cycling or an inability to shut down, promptly inspect the water lines and control components to prevent the fault from escalating.
