  • There are few gas consumption points, and each usage session is relatively short.
  • Gas storage tanks can meet short-term gas demand, allowing the equipment to operate without continuous loading.
  • The equipment is equipped with a pressure switch or on/off control, which automatically shuts down or unloads when the set pressure is reached.
  • There are numerous non‑continuous operations, such as purging, jog running, and maintenance testing.

Intermittent operation is not inherently abnormal; however, frequent start‑stop cycles within a short period can increase the load on the motor and valve components and compromise pressure stability. In such cases, improvements can be achieved by increasing the air receiver tank capacity, optimizing the pressure band settings, or inspecting the piping for leaks.

  • The production line operates continuously for extended periods, resulting in a relatively stable gas consumption.
  • When multiple gas consumption points are operating simultaneously, the equipment must continuously replenish its gas supply.

During continuous operation, particular attention should be paid to ventilation and heat dissipation, intake air cleanliness, lubricant condition, and maintenance intervals. Provided that the equipment is properly selected and cooling conditions are adequate, continuous operation is generally feasible.

  • Gas consumption matching:Is the equipment’s gas supply capacity close to the on-site gas consumption?
  • Gas tank capacity:The more reasonable the capacity, the better it can buffer fluctuations and reduce frequent starts and stops.
  • Pressure Control:Start‑stop pressure, on/off‑off‑on control logic, or variable‑frequency drive regulation can all affect the operating rhythm.
  • Site environment:Ventilation, temperature, and dust levels can affect the equipment’s ability to operate continuously.

How to determine whether the operating mode is reasonable?

  • Whether the pressure can be maintained within the process‑allowed range.
  • Does the unit shut down immediately upon startup, or does it restart quickly after a shutdown?
  • Are there any significant abnormalities in temperature, noise, or vibration during continuous operation?
  • Is there any obvious leakage that has caused the equipment to operate at high load for an extended period?

If the equipment experiences frequent start–stop cycles, rapid pressure drops, or prolonged operation under high load, it is generally necessary to inspect the gas consumption assessment, pipeline sealing, air tank sizing, and control parameters.

Usage Recommendations

Intermittent gas‑use applications are best suited to considerations of gas storage and buffering, start‑stop frequency, and pressure stability; continuous gas‑use applications, on the other hand, prioritize supply capacity, regulation methods, and cooling‑and‑maintenance requirements. When deciding between intermittent and continuous operation, one should not rely solely on equipment type but instead make a comprehensive assessment based on the gas‑consumption profile, pressure specifications, site conditions, and maintenance capabilities.
