What is an air compressor room used for, and can an AP be installed there?

What is an air compressor room used for?

Air compressor rooms are typically used to centrally house air compressors, air receivers, dryers, filters, piping, and associated control equipment. Their purpose is to supply the production system with stable, continuous compressed air while facilitating routine inspections, maintenance, drainage, and heat‑dissipation management.

Environmental Characteristics of the Air Compressor Room

  • Vibration and Noise:During operation, compressors generate mechanical vibrations and continuous noise, which may adversely affect precision electronic equipment.
  • Dust and oil contamination:Intake, maintenance, or pipeline leaks can introduce dust, oil mist, and contaminants, which adversely affect the heat dissipation and interfaces of network equipment.
  • Temperature and humidity fluctuations:The equipment generates significant heat during operation; if ventilation or heat dissipation is inadequate, the indoor temperature and humidity may become unsuitable for the long-term operation of low-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Complex power supply and wiring:There are numerous power cables, control lines, and pneumatic hoses; any newly installed equipment will require separate routing and protective measures.

Can an AP be installed in the air compressor room?

If hereAPRefers to a wireless access point; it is generally not recommended to place a standard AP directly inside an air compressor room. Air compressor rooms are not designated low-voltage equipment rooms, and their environmental conditions may exceed the range suitable for the long-term stable operation of network devices. If the goal is only temporary coverage within the room, and the site environment is relatively clean, with controllable temperature and humidity and reliable power supply, this can be evaluated as a localized solution. However, for long-term production use, priority should be given to locations outside the room or in adjacent auxiliary areas.

If an AP must be deployed, what conditions need to be confirmed?

  • Installation location:Avoid the compressor body, exhaust vents, drainage points, and vibration sources; select a location that is convenient for maintenance and less susceptible to impact.
  • Protection Capability:Select equipment with appropriate protection ratings or install protective enclosures based on the presence of dust, moisture, and oil mist.
  • Power supply method:It is recommended to design an independent, stable power supply circuit and avoid sharing lines susceptible to interference with high-power electrical equipment.
  • Cable Laying:Network cables and power cords shall be kept at a proper distance from high-voltage electrical lines and air pipes, and shall be securely fastened, clearly labeled, and adequately protected.
  • Cooling and Maintenance:Provide adequate clearance for heat dissipation and access for maintenance to prevent equipment from becoming obscured by dust or difficult to replace.

More Reliable Deployment Recommendations

It is further recommended to deploy APs in the corridor outside the air compressor room, in auxiliary rooms, in the low-voltage equipment room, or within the ceiling of the production area, ensuring appropriate placement to provide adequate coverage for the air compressor room. This approach not only meets wireless‑coverage requirements but also minimizes the impact of vibration, dust, and high temperatures on the equipment. If there are specific site‑specific requirements, implementation should proceed only after verifying that the equipment can tolerate the environmental conditions, installation method, and operational‑maintenance requirements.
