I. Preparations Before Powering On
Before starting the portable air compressor, a thorough inspection must be carried out to ensure that the equipment is in safe working condition.
- Check the oil level:Confirm that the lubricant level is within the normal range indicated on the dipstick; if it is low, promptly add the specified grade of lubricant.
- Inspect fasteners:Inspect all bolts and nuts for looseness, paying particular attention to the securement of the pulleys and the motor base.
- Inspect pipeline valves:Ensure that the exhaust piping is securely connected, all valves are in the correct open or closed position, and the air tank drain valve is closed.
- Inspect the belt and guard:Ensure that the drive belt is properly tensioned and free from severe wear; all safety guards must be securely installed and firmly in place.
- Turning inspection:Manually turn the shaft one to two revolutions; it should feel light, smooth, and even, with no binding or unusual friction noises.
II. In-Operation Safety Monitoring
After the equipment is started, operators must closely monitor its operating status and are strictly prohibited from leaving their posts.
- Observe the instrument readings:Monitor the pressure gauge and temperature gauge at all times. The discharge pressure must not exceed the rated pressure specified on the equipment nameplate, and the discharge temperature must comply with the technical specifications.
- Listen to the operating sound:Pay close attention to whether the motor and compressor unit exhibit any abnormal vibrations or unusual noises. If severe vibration or unusual sounds are detected, immediately shut down the equipment and perform an inspection.
- Check for air and oil leaks:Inspect the piping, fittings, and cylinder assemblies to ensure there are no leaks of air, oil, or water.
- Pay attention to the motor temperature:Monitor the motor housing temperature to ensure adequate heat dissipation, and strictly prohibit the storage of flammable or explosive materials around the motor and its enclosure, as well as any obstruction of the cooling vents.
III. Standardized Shutdown Procedures
Proper shutdown procedures can effectively protect equipment and relieve system pressure.
- Normal shutdown:First, disconnect the power supply to stop the equipment. Once the equipment has come to a complete halt, open the drain valves of the air receiver tank and the oil–gas separator to drain all condensate and oil contaminants, then close the drain valves.
- Relieve stress:Do not dismantle any piping, fittings, or fastening bolts until the system pressure has been confirmed to have dropped completely to zero.
- Emergency Shutdown:In the event of an emergency that threatens personal safety or equipment integrity—such as a severe gas leak, abnormal high temperature, or motor smoking—immediately press the emergency stop button and disconnect the main power supply.
IV. Routine Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance is the foundation for ensuring the long-term safe operation of a simple air compressor.
- Regular blowdown:Gas storage tanks must be drained daily to prevent water accumulation, which can cause tank corrosion or lead to safety incidents.
- Clean the filter:Regularly clean or replace the air filter element to ensure unobstructed airflow and reduce energy consumption.
- Safety Valve Verification:The safety valve on the gas storage tank serves as a safeguard against overpressure and must be periodically calibrated by qualified personnel to ensure its operation is sensitive and reliable. It is strictly prohibited to arbitrarily increase the set pressure of the safety valve.
- Record operational data:Maintain daily records of equipment operating hours, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting procedures to facilitate tracking of equipment status.
V. Core Safety Taboos
Operators must firmly remember the following safety red lines and strictly prohibit any non-compliant work practices.
- Pressurized operations are strictly prohibited:Under system pressure, striking, dismantling pipelines, valves, or any pressurized components is strictly prohibited.
- Shorting the protective device is strictly prohibited:It is prohibited to bypass or disable safety devices such as pressure switches, temperature protection switches, and safety valves without authorization.
- Unauthorized operation is strictly prohibited:Operators of special equipment must undergo specialized training and become familiar with the equipment’s performance and emergency response procedures before taking up their posts.
