Safety Regulations for Compressor Rooms

I. Environmental and Layout Standards for Compressor Rooms

The environment of the air compressor room directly affects the service life and safety of the equipment. A well‑planned layout and a favorable working environment are the foundation of safe production.

  • Space and Passage:Sufficient operational and maintenance access aisles shall be provided within the equipment room, with safe clearances maintained between equipment and between equipment and walls. The storage of flammable, explosive materials, or any miscellaneous items is strictly prohibited.
  • Ventilation and Heat Dissipation:The operation of air compressors generates substantial heat; therefore, the compressor room must be equipped with effective natural ventilation or a forced‑exhaust system to maintain the indoor temperature within the equipment’s allowable range, thereby preventing overheating‑induced shutdowns and potential fires.
  • Lighting and Dust Prevention:The equipment room shall be equipped with adequate lighting. In addition, dust‑proof measures must be implemented, and air filters should be cleaned regularly to prevent dust from entering the compression system.

II. Electrical and Pipeline Safety Management

Electrical systems and pressure pipelines are high-risk areas in the air compressor room and must comply strictly with applicable safety standards.

  • Electrical Code:All installation and maintenance of electrical equipment must be performed by qualified electricians. Control cabinets shall be properly grounded, and cables must be routed through conduits to prevent contact with high‑temperature pipelines. The unauthorized extension or haphazard connection of electrical wiring is strictly prohibited in the equipment room.
  • Piping and Valves:Compressed air pipelines shall be fabricated from materials that comply with national standards, and their joints must be inspected regularly to ensure leak‑tightness. Safety valves, pressure gauges, and other safety devices must undergo periodic verification to guarantee reliable operation in the event of overpressure.
  • Gas Storage Tank Management:Gas storage tanks are classified as special equipment and must undergo regular nondestructive testing and pressure‑holding tests. The drain valves should be opened periodically to remove accumulated water and oil from the tank, thereby preventing corrosion of the tank shell.

III. Daily Operation and Maintenance

Proper operation and regular maintenance are key to preventing equipment failures and safety incidents.

  • Personnel Training:Air compressor operators must undergo specialized training, be thoroughly familiar with the equipment’s structure, performance, and operating procedures, and are strictly prohibited from operating the equipment without proper training.
  • Startup and Shutdown Inspections:Before starting the equipment, check the oil level, coolant level, and the status of all valves. During operation, closely monitor pressure, temperature, and noise; if any abnormalities are detected, immediately shut down the equipment and perform a thorough inspection. After shutdown, disconnect the power supply and relieve any residual system pressure.
  • Regular Maintenance:Develop a maintenance schedule in strict accordance with the equipment manual, replace lubricating oil and relevant filters on a regular basis, maintain thorough maintenance records, and ensure that the equipment remains in good working condition.

IV. Fire Protection Facilities and Emergency Response Plans

A well‑established fire‑safety and emergency response system can minimize losses in the event of an unforeseen incident.

  • Firefighting equipment:The computer room shall be equipped with an adequate number of suitable fire extinguishers in accordance with regulations, and their effectiveness shall be inspected regularly. Smoking and the use of open flames are strictly prohibited in the computer room.
  • Warning Sign:In hazardous areas such as gas storage tanks, high-temperature components, high-pressure pipelines, and electrical control cabinets, conspicuous safety warning signs must be posted.
  • Emergency Drill:Enterprises shall develop emergency response plans for contingencies such as overpressure, fire, and power outages in compressor rooms, and conduct regular drills with operating personnel to enhance their emergency response capabilities.
